 Belvidere is a small, sparsely populated, town in the Northwest corner of Lamoille County. It is almost completely rural with a village located along Route 109 and the North Branch of the Lamoille River. The population is small enough that in 2004 the town voted to close it's elementary school and send it's few students to neighboring Waterville.
It is believed that the town was named for Lake Belvedere in Ireland. Belvidere is a translation from Italian for "Beautiful view".
